Aquarium
Formal Dining Room
Private Residence, Upper West Side, NYC
In this formal dining room, the reef is set directly into the wood paneling at the far end of the room, framed like a painting above a tufted banquette.
The warm millwork, coffered ceiling and crystal chandelier give the space a classic, old-world richness, and the aquarium answers it with cool blue light and constant motion. Live rock and corals build a layered reef across the full width of the opening, so the display reads as one composed scene from every seat at the table.
With all equipment hidden behind the paneling, nothing breaks the illusion: it is simply a living window, built into the architecture of the room.
